Bad printing is a self-initiated project that aims to rethinking our relationship to the production of printed materials. This series opens up questions of feasibility, means used in production and printing know-how. In a world where we are surrounded by products with almost invisible handprints, where production methods are blurred and automated. This research aims to put manual work linked to the practice of graphic design back in the forefront.
Bad Printing explores the means and possibilities of letterpress presses by engaging with the poster medium. The aim is to design visuals by experimenting with relief printing techniques.
The design of the visual is first imagined digitally by projecting the technical aspects related to production. Then in a second step, the practice becomes manual, transcribed by the use of linocut, the composition of lead or wood typefaces, , but also the use of other surfaces in relief.
Thus, each poster is the result of a manual practice of graphic design where every visible shape was cut, placed, adjusted manually in the composition. The aim of this research is more focused on questions related to the manufacturing process than on a search for a fixed result.
